Karate kicks during the drum fills

Was Suspicious minds a high water mark for Elvis? It's hard to think of a better one.

There's a great live version on the new Oxford American sampler. If you like that time capsule vibe half as much as I do, you will like the fact that it's from a live show after the recording sessions, but prior to the song's release.

Like all compilations of this type, it's a bit uneven, but in a time when nearly every magazine I read comes with a CD each month, the annual Oxford CD seems to be the most interesting.

A couple other songs of note include a terrific Al Green song, why wait for Tarintino to use it in a film, it's cool now.

And a Lightnin' Hopkins song so hot, it makes you want to go down to Crockett, take out your hanky and fan the statue.

If none of these move you, get yourself checked.
